darkness is omnipotent.
stars spend lifetimes wandering its planes.
man spends lifetimes raging against its certainty.
the enlightened embrace,
find peace in its cool touch.
darkness serves PEACE-maker
lulling restless souls to sleep,
bringing calm to grandmother’s rattling hand.
as the music plays they scream,
“cut off the lights!”
turning eyes inward
& souls outward
while being seduced by an
elusive freedom within
the engulfing darkness.
hips, arms, legs
break from rigid spine
once relieved of
blistering light.
her heart called as theirs,
“cut off the lights so i can dance again!”
if only i’d been brave enough to wheel her outside,
waltz her through the night air.
now
she is
the moon
orchestrating the midnight breeze.
she is
sons,
daughters,
many grandchildren.
she is
lorna doones,
ripple struck in a boundless pond.
she is
the humble night sky
laced with the eternal light of transient stars.
