Ode to Dylan

how to remain invisible:

wear your hair down
over your face.

all i smell is garbage,
but no dumpster in view.

to my left
man anguishes over match
against himself.

to my right
man leans chair back from table,
casting bait;
“challenge the chess master!”

unity declared,
black leading white
& vice versa.

[sun halts twenty degrees to horizon.]

from the shade
latin music arrives with the breeze.
the square transforms to some foreign romance film.
women float along the sidewalk;
hair glitters & flutters in long evening light.

did he sit where i do now?
admiring fleeting women
who see through & beyond him?

[sun finally sets over crimson corner; crowd amasses.
showdown begins.]
